Facilities Discussion Online and In Person
Wednesday, July 14th, 2010Last week we sent you an email outlining several options regarding Riverside's future facilities. After spending this past week in prayer, we will now begin sharing our heart and thoughts with respect to our facilities options. We have two places you can do this.
First, we will have live discussions following the worship services on Sundays, July 18 and July 25. Childcare will be provided.
Second, if you are not able to attend our discussions on Sundays, we will also have discussions through the comments section of this post. You can share your thoughts and questions by commenting via the form below. These comments will then be shared during the live discussions.
We deeply desire for all of Riverside, whether a new attendee or long-time member, to participate in this godly process of conversation and discernment.

Last night was playing around with my sermon on our laptop and I had just added a few thoughts that I thought might be helpful. I reached over for my glass of water and somehow I hit my wrist on the power button of the computer and off it went. Awesome. I had not saved my notes since I added the new stuff, so I waited for the computer to reboot to see if the content was there and sure enough it was gone.
So today’s sermon is about anger.
I know that not everyone here this morning is a sports fan, but this week has been really wild in terms of NBA basketball. One of the best players in the league, Lebron James, recently became a free agent and entered into potential negotiations with several NBA teams. There has been a ton of speculation about his decision and which choice he would make. He has played for the Cleveland Cavaliers his entire career, but decided on Thursday via primetime hour special on ESPN that he is now going to play for the Miami Heat with a couple of his friends. The media hype and the 1 hour decision special was a little over the top, but what has really made this a spectacle is the reaction to Lebron James’ decision.
The anger has been amazing, especially from people in Cleveland that believe that James has betrayed them. There are photos of people weeping and screaming at their televisions. There are photos of people burning Lebron James jerseys. And then I could not help but be a little shocked when I saw the anger of the Cleveland Cavaliers owner in an open letter that he wrote to Cleveland Cavalier fans and posted on the team’s website. See if you can sense a tone to this letter:
2010 Mission to Lafayette Coming Soon
Wednesday, July 7th, 2010RCC youth would like to invite you to participate in our first Mission to Lafayette!!! We will be doing projects around town, and eating, sleeping and worshiping together. Why drive hundreds of miles when we KNOW that people right here could use our help? There are several ways for you to get involved and we would be blessed to have you be a part of being the hands and feet of Jesus. We need help with physical labor, meals, supplies such as paint brushes and yard tools, worship, devotions, and most of all.......WE NEED TO HELP YOU OR YOUR FRIENDS DO PROJECTS AROUND TOWN!!!!! Wilderness Trail Adventure!

What a week we just spent in the mountains of Virginia!!!! (yes Virginia, not North Carolina as previously thought. The mailing address is North Carolina-but we hiked in Virginia-small detail) Ryan, myself, and Barry took 14 JH and SH students to a backpacking ministry called Wilderness Trail for a week and we have all returned, mostly unharmed besides some bad scratches and achy feet, and forever changed in our walks with the Lord. You can't help but love a ministry that cheers you in as you pull up their pinetree-lined driveway, give you huge hugs even though we smelled like stale potato chips and beef jerky, and welcome you into the lodge with words of encouragement in that beautiful southern drawl. From that point on we knew we were in good hands!!!
