A few weeks ago, Dar Muelhausen shared that she would be resigning her position as Children’s Discipleship Director. After 8 years in the position and many more in other Riverside Children’s Ministry roles she believed it was time to step away and pursue other aspects of God’s call on her life. You can read Dar’s note here.
When Dar announced her resignation she expressed her willingness to continue in her role as long as necessary to find a suitable replacement. The Riverside Leadership Team immediately updated the previous job description and prayed together that God would help us find someone that was passionate about discipling children and that would provide for a smooth transition into our new curriculum. The current Children’s Ministry team members and Promiseland teachers were invited to consider whether they sensed a call to the position.
We are excited to report that Megan Mills has been selected as Riverside’s new Children’s Discipleship Director. Megan was formally interviewed by Leadership Team members and Pastor Dan. They then recommended her for hire to the full Leadership Team. Megan had “100% support” from Dar, the Children’s Ministry Team, and was unanimously approved by the Riverside Leadership Team (with Megan’s husband, Everette, abstaining). She will begin her work on July 1, 2015.
You can read more about Megan below.
Megan Mills was born at Home Hospital in Lafayette, Indiana. It was a frigid February day three decades ago. She then spent the next 18 years growing up in nearby Battle Ground. Upon high school graduation she packed up all her belongings and moved… to Purdue. Growing up in the church she became a Christ-Follower in 7th grade. During her time at Purdue she was deeply involved in Grace Campus Fellowship, a GCM church serving on the worship team and involved in leading a small group. While pursuing a degree in Secondary Education, she met and fell in love with the Handsomest Nerd in all the Land, having always had an affinity for the geeky type. She quickly charmed him with her extraordinary Ultimate Frisbee skills, and Everette proposed marriage on her twenty-first birthday. They married in Megan’s final year of school, and due to Everette’s career opportunities they immediately packed up all their worldly possessions and moved… to Lafayette. After graduating, Megan spent a year teaching high school social studies in Kokomo, the next fall their son Jonathan (2007) was born. Megan then devoted her time to caring for, and teaching young Jonathan Also becoming involved with Bible Study Fellowship as a Children’s Leader.
God used these most recent years to develop in her a passion for teaching children the Word of God. She is inspired by the idea that this great and mysterious God has made himself available to even the smallest child and desires greatly to be known by them.
“You have been taught the holy Scriptures from childhood, and they have given you the wisdom to receive the salvation that comes by trusting in Christ Jesus.” 2 Timothy 3:15
