If you’ve been wondering what’s going on with children’s discipleship at Riverside, we have some news! You’ve probably seen Mel Lang engaging Riverside kids in person and online with her fun, interactive teaching moment during the service. She’ll continue offering this every other week. On the opposite weeks, kids age 4 through 5th grade are welcome to participate in a lesson downstairs. Yes, that’s right, we’re officially welcoming kids downstairs for RiverKids after song time in the service. (Sorry, nursery isn’t back up and running yet, but stay tuned!) Lessons will take place in the large, multi-purpose room in Riverside’s basement where each child will be seated on his or her own carpet square. Children from the same family will be grouped closer together, but distance of 6 feet between members of different families will be maintained, and masks are expected to be worn by both kids and teachers. Lessons downstairs will follow the scripture readings that are the basis for the sermon that week, and activities in those lessons will allow for kids to have their own sets of markers, crayons, scissors, etc. (We usually love sharing, but we’re still trying to limit the spread of any unwanted germs.)
So beginning Sunday, February 28, kids are welcome downstairs. If it’s been a while since your kids joined us, things will definitely look different, but we hope you’re as excited as we are about taking this small step toward a return to “normal”.
