I am constantly amazed at how the Lord works in my life. One would think I’d have it figured out by now, but I often feel more like a Pharisee than one of God’s elect. At the very beginning of this E100 challenge I was asked to do a devotion and I let someone else pick which reading I would write about. The passage that was chosen could not be more applicable in my life.
Over the past three months I have been blessed to mentor, disciple, and minister to a lost soul. During that time we grew very close and Chris felt lead to accept Christ into his life. This was a huge step in recovering from the addictions of his past and we knew it meant new life for Chris. 2 Corinthians 5:17 states that “if anyone is in Christ, he is a new creation; the old is gone, the new has come!” Unfortunately his history overtook his future and two weeks ago he was sentenced to 12 years in prison for his past transgressions.
Pizza, Purdue, & Planning
Funny how when you bring up pizza kids seem to come out of the woodwork!! We took 21 kids to Bruno’s last Sunday for a little food, March Madness (where we got to see Purdue win in overtime!!), and some summer planning. I’ve decided after 2 years of going to Bruno’s that it will have to be a yearly tradition for as long as we’re around-it truly is “madness” but so much fun!! After scarfing down Bruno dough and several pizza’s I get to hear from the students what THEY would like to learn about, and activities that they would like to be a part of throughout the summer months. I must say that skydiving was mentioned more than once-no worries though, I don’t usually have them do things that I wouldn’t do myself!!!!!! So we’ll be doing some float trips, fishing, rock climbing, learning about purity, prayer, and the book of Revelation-sounds like a great summer to me!
All Fired Up
This past Sunday we decided to take a field trip to a local paint your own pottery studio to make mugs! Being the tree lover that I am, I hate all the cups and cans and whatever else disposable that we use so much of at youth group. So…in an effort to combat waste and create a sense of belonging, we all went and made our own mug that we’ll use-it was quite amusing to watch the kids get creative. Even more so because, if you’ve ever painted pottery, you can’t really tell what it’s going to look like until it’s fired. So wish me luck, I’m headed over there to pick them up-I’ll keep you posted!
