So last Sunday we had BEAUTIFUL weather so we took a trip to Happy Hollow Park to enjoy the sunshine and have a little object lesson in building community. I gave everyone a slip of paper with instructions on it that informed them on how they were able to play our group game of Follow the Leader. Some said they couldn’t talk, others said they COULD talk but couldn’t say anything helpful, while other said they couldn’t use certain appendages. One paper even said a student couldn’t use their arms OR their legs, in fact, as soon as the game started they had to just sit down.
The only other instruction to the students before we started was that everyone had to follow their rule and EVERYONE needed to finish. It was hilarious to watch the students try to figure out how to make it through the park as a team-at first they didn’t even realize that one person was sitting down, and when they realized they were going to have to CARRY that person the whole way they didn’t think they could do it, but they did. This lesson led into our discussion of working together as the body of Christ, each using the gifts God gave them. It’s just the beginning of our talk on Spiritual gifts-look for more to come as we encourage them to pray about how God has specially designed each one of them.
