The “Importance of Prayer Class” starts this Sunday during Adult Discovery Hour (9 a.m.). Learn practical applications for biblically based prayer. This 10-week study is designed for beginners and warriors alike. Sessions will be facilitated by Dan Teefey and Linda Bogan with guest speakers including Conrad Wilcox, Justin, Diane Kelley and Philip Cardella.

What Is the Church and What Is It Supposed to Be Doing?
An in-depth look into two of the six affirmations of the Covenant which speak to the church. The first one examined the church as a fellowship of believers. The second is the affirmation of commitment to the whole mission of the church. December 20: The Church and the Gospel.

1. Diving Into “The Essential 100 Challenge”
The manner in which the Church as a whole and local churches in particular have chosen to involve themselves in the political realm has varied over time and as a function of the traditions and theology of various denominations. In our own country the Establishment clause in the Constitution (“Congress shall make no law respecting an establishment of religion”) draws a line of separation between the Church and the State, and has also had a significant impact on how involved American Churches have been able to be. For most, the issue is not whether or not Christians should seek to serve and alleviate the suffering of others in this world, but rather the most appropriate means to do so, both in terms of the theology of the Gospel and the philosophy of ministry of the Church.

If a few Christians gather regularly to pray and study God’s word and perhaps sing hymns or choruses together, are they a church? What are the essential components of a church?
