OUT Service Opportunities with Habitat for Humanity

Family Services Committee – 2-3 couples/friends needed
What: Mentor a family during the year they are earning their home
When: 2nd Saturday of each month starting at 8:00am for breakfast, lesson on home ownership, followed by a few hours of construction
Commitment: 2-8 hours/ Month, House Blessing, and 1 committee meeting/training per month; Duration of 12-18 months (Opportunity for more outside of that with a chance for extension to first year of home ownership)
Where: Meets at the Junction House, 215 Smith St., Lafayette
Starts Feb 9th but can join later too
Includes childcare for an hour during family fellowship breakfasts
This could either be a volunteer couple (rotating) or people interested in only childcare

Financial Coaches
One coach per Habitat family (opportunity for many people to be coaches)
Set up times to meet up with participants to coach/help them with their financial plan and apply what they are learning in modified Financial Peace classes
Times to meet are flexible (set up between coach and participant)
Usually an hour each meeting
1-2 group meetings (2-3 hours each)
Roughly 20 hours/year + House Blessing

Home Ownership Teachers
Teach a practical lesson on owning a home, ex. lawn care, plumbing, marketability, regular/deep cleaning, home maintenance, etc…
Teach the lesson once every 10 months (roughly) at 2nd Saturday breakfasts

Homeowner Readiness Advocates
Encourage willing participants to attend Homestead classes and answer their questions
Participants are families that don’t yet quality for Habitat’s homeownership program
Goal is to get participants to qualify for the Homeownership Program
Driven by participant desire
Low hour commitment
Opportunity for development of program

Construction – Contact Kurt Watt kwatt@reinso.com
Join a crew monthly to serve together to build/repair Habitat houses
6-7 hour work day
Participation can be flexible as often as a few times a month or less
Vary between holidays, Fridays and Saturdays

Habitat Ambassadors
Promote Habitat’s mission and programs in your own community/circle of influence
Recruit people to attend Lunch and Learns
Attend 2-4 House Blessings
Attend Ambassador training

ReStore Volunteers
Work in the store helping donors and customers
Could be a good chance to volunteer with your teenage child
