Many Christians around the world will be entering the season of Lent next week beginning with Ash Wednesday on February 22. During this season, we have the opportunity to “confront our false selves” as we reflect on the behaviors that we engage in that are least Christ like and seek God’s help in rededicating ourselves to His purposes. We do this through fasting and self-denial paired with actions to make ourselves more available to God– fasting from food and other distractions (media? Angry Birds?) while engaging in additional times of prayer and Scripture reading. One way we can share our Lenten journey together is to fast from lunch /food during the day on Wednesdays (if you are able) and then meet together for a soup dinner and family devotional Wednesday evenings (Feb 29-Ap4) 5:30-6:30 pm at the Cardellas’ house (3715 Tesla Dr. West Lafayette). You might also consider other things you can fast from during Lent (coffee? chocolate? TV? the news? sports radio?) as well as finding a daily devotional.
