A lot is going on this fall in RiverKids! To let us all know what is going on, Miss Megan has made a video giving us some much needed details. Check it out…everyone (even if you don’t have kids down in RiverKids, you are going to want to watch this)! Or read the transcript below!
It’s Miss Megan hanging out down in my office. If it sounds echoing here it’s because it’s pretty empty. Everything is getting pretty empty down here because we’re getting real close to starting construction, which is one of the reasons why I’m making this video. I have some really exciting news and some really important news that you’re going to want to know. I thought that I’d make a video so that not just RiverKid parents can see, but the whole congregation and the kids themselves. Then everybody will know what’s happening, as much as I know what’s happening.
The first thing I want to tell you is that this Sunday September 9th we are starting RiverKids back in mostly full capacity. It’s going to look a little different because we have no tables and no chairs and no supplies, currently. So stay tuned and I’m going to tell you how that’s going to look, but what I really am excited to share with you is that we have an official construction start date! I can share with you that we are going to start construction downstairs in RiverKids, October 1st, which is a Monday! Okay, I’ll pause for your cheers.
So what that means first of all, is that Sunday September 30th I’m going to need all the help I can get after second service (Correction: After 5th Sunday Fellowship) doing the final push to clean everything out. We’ve got almost everything gone, but we have stuff from the nursery and things that we’ve been using all summer long that we need to get out. So September 30th, after we eat, I need your help. Now I want to talk to you about what it’s going to look like down here between this Sunday and October 1st. First a reminder that September 23rd we will be at the all adult retreat so there will be no church here at our building. The church service is at the retreat so you should sign up for the retreat because it’s going to be amazing but there won’t be anything in this building where I am right there.
For all the other Sundays in September we are doing what I’m calling the “summer style” , not the summer schedule so the kids are still going to come start upstairs like they’ve been doing all summer. They’re going to start upstairs and as families we will worship together for the singing part of the worship service. Then their special song will play and they’ll be dismissed and they’ll come downstairs. But instead of going to one room to watch a movie, which is what we’ve been doing all summer. they’re going to go into their classrooms with their teacher. They have officially been promoted.
A special note to nursery parents of three year old’s who’ve been hanging out in the nursery all summer, this is your official invitation to join us in RiverKids in the preschool classroom across the hallway. We’re excited to have you and we just want to welcome you to RiverKids. Just a reminder we’re going to start upstairs and then we’ll come downstairs and go to our classrooms and then parents, you’ll pick your kids up in their classrooms which will be labeled.
Two more things… One we are trusting God to provide a few more teachers in RiverKids. We are not looking for a warm body to fill a spot. We are looking for people who believe that God has called all of us to reach the next generation and to share Jesus with them and to disciple them. I would invite you and challenge you to consider if that might be you. I’m specifically looking for teachers in the third and fourth grade level.
We know that God has called all of us to participate in this in some way, and I’m asking you to consider if He might be calling you to teach. The biggest investment involved in RiverKid teaching is not time, is not money, it is your heart. You’re going to invest your heart in these kids and you will be just immensely blessed. The final thing I just want to tell you give you a heads up. There’ll be more information about this as we get closer to the construction date, but I want to prepare all of us to plan that for three weeks after the construction starts, three Sundays that we will be all together worshipping in one sanctuary. But we are going full throttle downstairs in an effort to get done as soon as possible and so I just want you guys to plan and prepare for three Sundays all worshipping together.
I want you to pray and I want you to get excited about it because this is going to be a really opportunity a great opportunity for us all worship together as one big family. It’s going to be different, it might be challenging but we can do it. It can be awesome if we decide that it can be awesome. So we check our hearts to prepare and again there’ll be some more information when we get closer but I just wanted to give that little taste of information for you. Always feel free to call me or email me or get a hold of me on Sunday. If you have any questions. I love talking to you guys. That’s all I have. So I look forward to seeing you guys on Sunday, See ya!
