I just wanted to let you know that VBS is officially cancelled this year. I know many of you likely inferred this, but I was waiting and watching to see if there might be a way to make it happen.
We believe that VBS is valuable and worthwhile for many reasons. Most importantly sharing the gospel with kids-but we also believe this happens on a weekly basis in RiverKids and in the home as parents disciple their own children. VBS does provide other important and beneficial things, two important ones: First by creating a space for adults at Riverside to get to know and form relationships with kids at Riverside that translate beyond VBS, drawing us into greater community and secondly by transforming our physical space into a place where kids feel welcomed and invited and desired-teaching them that the church is where they belong, a place to feel safe and cared for.
Doing VBS online would not allow for either of these things to happen. Sure the content would be creative and fun but in the end it would be another video to watch.
I encourage you to explore other VBS online options if that is something you want to pursue.
We look forward to resuming VBS next summer!
