Riverside Youth – Fall 2015

Click HERE to go to the Riverside Youth Calendar.  This calendar will remain updated with our schedule.  You can add the Riverside Youth Calendar to your personal calendar by clicking the above link and then clicking the button at the bottom right corner of the calendar.  You can also always see youth events by going to the top of this website, clicking on “resources,” and then “calendar.”

In addition, we will be sending text reminders before Youth Group each week and before monthly special events.  You can join our texting list by texting “EZXIT20579” to 313131.  (To unsubscribe from this list reply “STOP” to 313131)

Here are our plans for the semester:

1. Sunday worship with family.  I know it can be a challenge, but when it comes to faith commitment in teens, spending worshipful time with parents and other adults is vital.  Experience weekly worship together as a family and then talk about one thing that impacted/convicted/encouraged you on the ride home.  You don’t have to interview your kids.  They need to hear you share your sins, joys, and trust in Christ.  Here are 5 tips for how to help your kids develop faith that lasts.  Check out Deuteronomy 11:19-21 too.

2. Weekly youth gatherings @ Riverside’s main building.
Purpose: group discipleship – including fun, games, snacks, bible, prayer, & community
* Jr. High (7th-8th) – 4:30-6pm – The Journey Discipleship Curriculum – New Testament (description below)
* Sr. High – 6:30-8pm – One.Life. – Jesus Calls, We Follow (description below)

3.  Monthly special events
* Semester Kickoff Cookout – Sunday, September 13 (Jr. High @ 4:30, Sr. High @ 6:30)
* The Feast – Saturday and Sunday, October 3-4 – Signup to help HERE
* Exploration Acres – Thursday, October 15 @ 6pm (Jr. & Sr. High)
* Food Pantry @ LTHC – Monday, November 16 @ 4-6pm (Jr. High) and Monday, November 23 @ 4-6pm (Sr. High)

* Winter Retreat – December (TBD)
* The Escape Room – Indianapolis – January

4.  Westside Sr. High lunches – bring friends!
Grilled cheese, soup and desserts @ Riverside building
Monthly date will be set through discussion with Sr. High.
(Harrison High has a new principal and we are checking on the possibility of having someone meet Harrison students for lunch)

5.  Jr. High Prayer Email.
Erin Rush manages a monthly prayer concerns email where parents can list prayer needs in their family and ensure that other parents are praying for their family.  If you are not already utilizing this, please email jhprayergroup@gmail.comand Erin can share more information with you.

6.  Adopt-A-Youth Prayer Warriors.

Each year we match youth with a Riverside adult of the same gender who commits to faithfully pray for the youth 3 to 5 minutes a day, 5 days a week.  Diane Kelley provides the Prayer Warriors with a Scriptural prayer guide, but we also ask the Prayer Warriors to communicate with their youth and/or parents to obtain current prayer requests.  If you would prefer that your youth not participate, please let Diane know (dtkelley@frontier.com).  Otherwise they will meet their Prayer Warrior soon!

7.  Semester Parent Trainings
Fall – Crystal & Mark Kirgiss – How to be in conversation with your kids about sex
Spring – What is college like from current Riverside college students and parents (for Sr. High) and what is high school like from current Riverside high school students and parents (for Jr. High)

8.  Future
Sunday, May 15 – Riverside Youth Sunday

Wilderness Trail – July 2016

Jr. High – The Journey Discipleship Curriculum – New Testament

The goal is to help students foster a deep and abiding relationship with Father, Son, and Holy Spirit by encouraging students to begin, or intentionally continue, a life-long journey as Christ’s disciple. Students have an opportunity to learn the truths of the Christian faith, through the stories of the Bible, and though the ongoing work of the church.

Sr. High – One.Life. – Jesus Calls, We Follow:
What does it look like to follow Jesus, and how will doing so change the way we live our life—our love.life, our justice.life, our peace.life, our community.life, our sex.life—everything about our life. One.Life will open students’ eyes to the full, compelling immensity of what it means to be a Christian.
