Walk in High Heels or Build a Table

Domestic-Violence-Awareness-Month

In 2012 the Evangelical Covenant Church adopted a resolution laying out our biblical call to “move beyond denial and disbelief and break the silence on domestic violence by acknowledging through teaching, preaching, and leadership the existence of domestic violence that occurs within our society and churches, and by encouraging victims and survivors to seek help and healing.”

“Christ longs to free, protect, empower, and heal all experiencing domestic violence, and calls abusers to repentance and transformation (Psalm 82:3-4; Matt. 11:28-30); and Christ calls the church to be a safe haven of truth, hope, healing, peace, protection and restoration (if possible).”

You can read the whole resolution here.

There are a couple upcoming opportunities to support our area Domestic Violence Shelter in October.

walk a mile

1. Walk a Mile in Her Shoes. There is an old saying: “You can’t really understand another person’s experience until you’ve walked a mile in their shoes.” Walk a Mile in Her Shoes asks men to literally walk one mile in women’s high-heeled shoes on Friday, October 9th at 5:30pm. It’s not easy walking in these shoes, but it’s fun and it gets the community to talk about violence against women. You can register to participate here.

2. Artisan Care Build.  Riversider Dan Zehner is putting together a team of people to build 2 beautiful tables and bookcases for the Domestic Violence Shelter. The build will take place over two days, October 10-11, and you are invited to help whenever you are able. If you would like to participate in the build, please RSVP on the Facebook event page.

So thankful that Riverside is willing to “step up” (haha) and be The Church to our community and those who need it. I love my church. Thank you all!
