Hey Everyone! This week, Sunday October 1, 2017 is Family Worship Sunday. This means, parents, eat your Wheaties! Kidding. But seriously, you should eat breakfast, it keeps you from getting hangry! This is awesome. It means we all get to worship together. It means we remember that church is for everyone! It means, if you don’t have kids, take this opportunity to make a new friend. Put some candy in your pocket or stick a treasure in your purse. Sit next to a kid. Help a family out! Smile and be gracious, do not avoid eye contact.
It means if you are a parent. Sit where your kids are comfortable (I used to say in the front where they can see, but my own kid prefers the back because it’s too loud for him in the front). Allow your young kids to stand on the chair during singing so they can see. Talk to them about the songs we are singing, explain words. Don’t freak out if your kid whispers too loudly. We want to be teaching our kids appropriate expectations for corporate worship. We don’t play tag during church. But it’s OK if they accidentally knock the Bible off the chair (it happens every time, usually my kid knocks it off and just gets it out of the way). We are all going to put others first. We as parents are going to encourage our kids to listen and be respectful of others who are trying to listen. And other grown-ups are going to not be shooting daggers into the back of the heads of parents with wiggly young kids. “Therefore encourage one another and build each other up, just as in fact you are doing.” 1 Thessalonians 5: 11
Parents we are not going to hit snooze on our alarm and sleep in this Sunday. We are going to worship together, and by George, we are going to like it!
Parents, there are activity bags in the sanctuary, as well as Kid’s Sermon Sheets, that your kids can earn Bible Bucks for Downstairs. The nursery and the preschool rooms will be open, but I encourage you to try to worship with your kids. Or stay for the singing. Baby steps. See you on Sunday to get our worship on!
Further Up and Further In!
