It is snowing, and I just love it! I am now officially in the mood for Christmas!! I must say it did catch me a little off guard as I walked out of my office and had about three inches of snow on my car and no snow scraper to scrape it off. Did you know you can use a small compact telephone directory to brush snow off your car?
This month we have a lot of activities going on in Promiseland. We will start by shopping this Sunday at the Promisemart Store. In addition to the usual items, we have added some adult items that the kids can purchase for their parents or other adult family members for Christmas. We are providing gift bags so you won’t see their purchases. If you would like to encourage your child to use some of their bible bucks to purchase gifts for others, that would be great. We try to come up with ideas to help the kids learn to share their earned bucks.
The next event will be a service project, making cookies again for the Jubilee Christmas Families. We will make them on December 7th at 5pm and we will feed the kids pizza for dinner. Any child in K-5th grade is welcome to participate.
December 18th is our annual Christmas Musical. We will begin at 4:30 with the musical, followed by caroling, and then back to church for pizza and birthday cake for Jesus. We hope everyone joins us for this fun festive evening.
As a reminder we will have Christmas Eve services, but there will not be church on Christmas Day. We will have church on New Years Day but there will not be any Promiseland.
This month our 3-5yr class will discover Christmas is the time we celebrate the good news of Jesus’ birth. The Christmas story is retold every week, but with a slightly different focus each time.
The K-1st graders will continue looking at God’s amazing story with four lessons that teach them about God’s greatest gift to us, His Son, Jesus. Each week children will learn about the Christmas story, including the appearance of angels to Mary and the shepherds, Mary and Joseph’s journey to Bethlehem, and the baby Jesus being born and laid in the manger. The unit ends with a lesson intended to help children understand what Christmas is all about: that Jesus is God’s greatest gift to us because He is our Savior and He came to save us from our sins so we can be part of God’s family.
The Winter Quarter the 2nd/3rd grade class and 4th/5th grade class will continue their journeys through the Bible. They will examine Christmas, the season of Jesus Christ’s birth. They will learn that without Jesus, Christmas would not exist. They will learn Jesus is the Greatest News, God sent His Son Jesus and He wants them to remember that He is what Christmas is all about, and God sent His Son Jesus to be their Savior.
During this Holiday Season, May you take time to reflect on how you and your family have been blessed by the birth of Jesus and His gift of salvation to all who believe and call Him Emanuel.
Blessed Christmas,
Dar Muehlhausen
