Hi, Parents. I hope this newsletter finds you and your family healthy and warm. I have been busy spraying a lot of Clorox Anywhere in the nurseries and Promiseland, hoping to alleviate the spreading of germs here. I also believe they need to add to my job description: wiping runny noses!
This Sunday your children will shop in PL so don’t forget their Bible Bucks. We will begin a new year by filling Christmas Shoe Boxes for children around the world again. Your kiddos will be able to use some of their Bucks to purchase items for the boxes. We also are collecting money in each classroom for Bekalu, our Ethiopian child we support. This is the 5th year we have supported him by sending $35 each month. Our money provides him with clothes, school supplies, and food. I have just realized many of our newer families didn’t know about this mission opportunity for ours in Kid’s Ministry.
As we continue to encourage you to grow in the area of faith at home, please consider signing up for our FREE Parents as Spiritual Mentors workshop on Feb. 21, 9-12am. See below for an attachment of an overview of what will be offered to us at this event. I believe it will be exciting to come together and to see what God’s Word says about this subject and to gain ideas and encouragement from each other in the adventure of mentoring our children.
I would also like to encourage all of our parents to complete the REVEAL Spiritual Survey, provided by our church, as a tool to see how we as a church can help facilitate spiritual growth in your lives.
This month our 3-5 year kiddos are hearing miraculous stories from Jesus’ life that show He can do anything! They will relive the times when Jesus healed a centurion’s servant, stilled a storm, gave sight to Bartimaeus, and end with how Jesus was a storyteller by hearing the story of the Lost Son.
In the K-1st grade room, the kids are hearing the story of the Good Samaritan and learning Jesus wants us to treat others as we would want to be treated. They will hear the story of how Peter obeyed Jesus by putting in his fishing nets on the other side of the boat and then following Him. They will learn we need to obey Jesus even when it is hard. Children will hear The Lord’s Prayer and learn they can praise God and ask Him for things they need, for help to obey, and for forgiveness.
The 2nd-3rd graders are learning about Jesus, the Good Shepherd. They will be learning we are like sheep and we need Jesus, our Good Shepherd. Throughout this month the kids will learn different characteristics of sheep and shepherds. They will find out that like sheep, we are sometimes afraid, and the Good Shepherd knows how to comfort and care for us. They will learn the difference between needs and wants, and they will learn the Good Shepherd meets our needs. Also, like sheep, we go astray and Jesus sets limits and gives us guidance. The month will end with the salvation message as kids learn the good Shepherd laid down His life for us, His sheep.
Our 4th-5th graders are learning about spiritual gifts and how they are used to serve and build up the Church. They will hear about some of the spiritual gifts, and how each gift is vital to the growth, health, and welfare of the church. At the end of the month, they will learn about Good Stewardship and how everything we have comes from God. Kids will learn God wants us to give cheerfully, strategically, locally, and globally. They will learn about tithing and look at how we should give, how much, when, and to whom.
Praying for Blessings from God to all of you, as we serve Him together,
Dar
