There was “a whole lotta shoppin’ goin’ on” at the Promise Mart Store on October 19. Halfway through Discovery Hour the storekeeper had to make a deposit because of the large stack of Bible Bucks he had received. It has been so exciting to see the kids coming to Discovery Hour with their Bibles tucked under their arms and a Bible verse hidden in their hearts.
During the final unit of the Fall Quarter, 3-to-5-year-old Discovery Hour kids will visit King Henry of The Story Kingdom. Each week they will hear the story of Old Testament heroes. Through seeing how God provided for Moses, Joshua, David, and Daniel in difficult situations, children will learn God helps us.
K-through-3rd-graders will finish their chronological journey through the Old Testament by the end of November. In each story they will learn about the importance of obeying and following God. Through the story of Joshua and the walls of Jericho, they will see we can trust and obey God because He knows everything. David fights Goliath and shows them God will give them courage when they follow Him. Daniel will teach them God is the One True God and they can follow Him even when they are thrown in with the lions. Nehemiah works with a group of people and rebuilds the wall around Jerusalem, showing them the blessings that come from doing God’s work together. Finally, they will review all the stories and discover God wants them to be a part of His story.
This month our 4th-and-5th-graders will finish their journey through the Old Testament by looking at key characters of the Bible and how their lives reflected their walks with God. Through a game show format, the kids will be introduced to Big doGs (disciples of God) and how their lives influenced those around them. Boaz teaches about following God first, Gideon challenges the kids to obey God, Solomon helps the kids know where to dig for wisdom, Esther teaches about taking risks for God, and Nehemiah models being a Big doG with a servant’s attitude.
The final lesson in this unit will help the children see how “It All Fits Together.”
As Thanksgiving approaches may we be ever so thankful of God’s abundant blessings from the past and may we trust Him for our future.
