Wow! It seems like it has been forever since I’ve written a Chatter. It was a nice break this summer because of the scaled down version of Promiseland but we are back to two hours of teaching again and ready for the school year ahead.
This Sunday we have some special activities happening at both services. Your PL age kids will be upstairs at the beginning of the service for worship. We will sing some of the Vacation Bible School songs they learned this summer and we will be presenting Bibles to some of the kids. It should be a great time of worship for all of us.
In September, our 3-5yr. kids will learn how God takes care of His people through the stories of Creation-God made everything, and we can take care of it. Adam and Eve-God made us and wants us to obey. Abraham and Sarah-God always keeps His promises. Jacob and Esau-God wants us to forgive others.
Kids in the K-1st grade will be introduced to the Bible-The Greatest Book on Earth! Kids will learn that the Bible is God’s book and it is different from any other book. They will learn that the Bible tells us about God’s love for us and that people are His most favorite creation. They will hear that the Bible is full of God’s promises to us. In the last lesson of the unit, children will learn that the Bible shows us how God wants us to live—it helps us to know right from wrong and it shows us how to love God and others.
Learning about the reliability and usability of the Bible will begin the year for our 2nd and 3rd graders. Kids will learn that the Bible is God’s Word, it is true, it is for all people and all time. Through these lessons, they will understand how the Bible is like a light, a sword, and seed. This unit uses the imagery of life as a jungle. Just as in the jungle, people need tools to survive and conquer, we need the Bible to survive and conquer in life. The kids will become familiar with the lay out of the Bible and be challenged to memorize the books of the New Testament.
Got Wisdom? That is what the 4th and 5th grade kids will find out. They will learn that the Bible comes from God and is the final authority for guiding our lives. They will see that it gives practical wisdom so we can be happy and successful. They will understand that the Bible is a firm and unchanging foundation upon which we can build our lives. Finally, kids will discover that the Bible gives us answers for our questions about God and life when we are confused, hurting, or just curious.
Parents, I want to encourage you to continue practicing the different types of prayers that we have been doing in PL each week, with your kids at home. This past Sunday we prayed Praise Prayers. I was teaching the 4th-5th grade class and they were AWESOME! They all prayed several times each and were extremely comfortable doing it. Praise God!
This is exactly what we want for your children, being comfortable praying with others out loud, especially their peers.
God Bless you and your family,
Dar Muehlhausen
