I keep telling myself, “Summer is winding down and fall is coming,” but then I walk outside and the summer heat and humidity hit me square in the face. Sooo… I’m going to pretend it is still summer and keep all of our underwater decorations up in PL until I see the leaves turn red and I’m not mowing my grass every 4 days.
I hope all of our RCC families have had a great summer and are ready to get back to some serious Bible ‘lernin’ here in PL. We will begin our fall curriculum on the 14th of September during both services. As our kids continue to move up in grade level, we now have enough 4-5th graders to prompt us to add a 2nd class during the 1st service. We knew this would happen eventually as our larger classes of younger kids continued to advance. Besides that change everything else in PL will be the same. We encourage your children to bring their Bibles each Sunday and to memorize the weekly verse. We will continue to take an offering to support Bekalu, our Ethiopian child who is now in 6th grade. We send $35 each month to help with his medical and educational needs.
Last winter our PL Ministry Team began the task of evaluating our current curriculum and looking at other curriculum that is available. The progress has been rather slow but we will continue and come to a conclusion eventually as God leads us through this process. We believe the material we use to teach your children about biblical truths is very important; therefore, if a change is made it will be made with great care.
This past Sunday, we celebrated with three of our PL kids as they were baptized in the river at Fort Ouiatenon. We praise God for their commitments to Him and public profession before the Riverside family.
In the month of September your 3-5yr olds will be learning about God taking care of His people through the stories of Creation, Adam and Eve, Abraham and Sarah, and Jacob and Esau.
The Greatest Book on Earth! The K-1st grade will learn the Bible is God’s book and it is different from any other book. They will learn the Bible tells us about God’s love for us and people are his most favorite creation. They will hear the Bible is full of God’s promises to us. In the last lesson the kids will learn the Bible shows us how God wants us to live — it helps us to know right from wrong and it shows us how to love God and others.
Our 2nd-3rd grade kids will learn the Bible is God’s Word, it is true, and it is for all people and all time. They will understand how the Bible is like a light, a sword, and a seed. This unit uses the imagery of life as a jungle. Just as in the jungle, people need tools to survive and conquer, we need the Bible to survive and conquer in life. Kids will become familiar with the lay out of the Bible and be challenged to memorize the books of the New Testament.
Learning about the wisdom of the Bible will be the focus of the 4-5th grade kids this month. They will learn the Bible comes from God and is the final authority for guiding our lives. They will see it gives practical wisdom so we can be happy and successful. They will understand the Bible is a firm and unchanging foundation upon which we can build our lives. Finally, kids will discover the Bible gives us answers for our questions about God and life when we are confused, hurting, or just curious.
