The Call of Abram – Genesis 12:1-12:20

Scripture text for Monday, January 11, 2010: Genesis 12:1-12:20

Full Text Online | Listen Online

God tells Abram to leave home, God will make him a great nation, yada yada yada. Typical Old Testament history, right? Take another look. As they say, “You can’t make this stuff up.” This would make a great movie!

Tower of Babel – Genesis 11:1-11:9

Scripture Text for Today: Genesis 11:1-11:9

Full Text Online | Listen Online

Genesis 11:1-9 is the account of the Tower of Babel. God speaks to people in many different ways through this story and I would like to share one important lesson I gleaned from it. When first reading this passage it wouldn’t appear that those that built the tower did anything wrong. We might ask what is so wrong with building a tower so they could be in community. We however know that God was disappointed with their actions. Therefore more in depth study of this scripture is required to understand what these people did wrong and how we might apply it to our lives.

God’s Covenant with Noah – Genesis 8:1-9:17

Scripture Text for Today: Genesis 8:1-9:17

Full Text Online | Listen Online

As I read Genesis 8:1 to 9:17, a number of memories and experiences surfaced. In these verses, Noah has experienced the great flood, and it has receded. Periodically, he sent out a dove to determine if the earth was dry and able to sustain his family and the various animals that were aboard his ship. Patience was shown by Noah, and he trusted God to tell him when the earth was able to sustain habitation.

The Flood – Genesis 6:5-7:24

Scripture text for Wednesday, January 6, 2010: Genesis 6:5-7:24

Full Text Online | Listen Online

Do you ever find it difficult to obey God’s word? How far would you go to obey God? Would you risk ridicule to obey Him? Would you build an ark if God told you to? Like most of us, Noah must have struggled with obeying the Lord’s commands…but still he was obedient.
