It was a cool 94 degrees on Sunday so we had the students over to the Wellner house for a water balloon fight and pizza party to celebrate the end of school:) It was the perfect weather for soaking each other!! In Discovery Hour we began a discussion on how to deal with internal conflict in the church. We talked about Matthew 18:15 and how different that picture of conflict resolution is from what the world shows us-retaliation, gossip, bitterness, etc. So at the water balloon party we had the kids line up Civil War style-each team in a line, double deep, with ammo ready. One team could “fire” at a time and the other side just had to stand there and take it. Then the second team could decide whether or not they wanted to fire back. We talked afterwards about what went through their heads when it came to firing back at someone who has tried to hurt you, and if it matters who it is, if you have history with them, if they’re a stranger, all tho

Sunday, May 30, Sermon Rated PG-13
This upcoming Sunday, May 30, Riverside will begin a sermon series on the “acts of the sinful nature” in Galatians 5. The first sermon in this series will be on sexual immorality (“repetitive, loveless, cheap sex” in the Message translation). Pastor Dan intends to speak frankly about sex and would like you to consider whether or not the sermon is appropriate for your children if they are normally in the worship service rather than in Children’s Church. The Riverside Sermon Rating Board (Pastor Dan) has rated the sermon PG-13. If you have any questions or would like help in your discernmnet process, please do not hesitate to contact Pastor Dan.

E100 Week 20 Discovery Hour
Lesson from Sunday, May 23rd, 2010
Our E100 finished up this week with the book of Revelation. This book is often regarded as one of the most difficult books to understand in the Bible, yet this perception is typically based on a fundamental misunderstanding of it, in my opinion. When read as a pictorial roadmap of future events through which we can make confident and direction connections to current events, it is indeed very difficult. However, if we instead read the book with an understanding of its symbolic, rather than pictorial nature, it becomes much more clear and understandable. Hopefully our discussion of it in class can help make this distinction clear.
