We are praising our Promiseland children for reaching their mission goal of $130. They purchased one goat, four ducks, and two chickens for a family in another country. This was accomplished in approximately three months. Their new goal will be to help build a school and purchase school supplies. We are very proud of our kids and their willingness to give back to God a portion of what He gives them.
Promiseland Chatter
We started June off with an appreciation picnic for Promiseland volunteers. About thirty-five of us gathered at a Happy Hollow shelter for dinner, games, and fun fellowship. It looked like rain all day, but, as usual, God was good and held off the rain until we were done. Everyone left with full tummies and Sand Art Brownies in a jar.
New Adult Discovery Hour Series-The Nicene Creed
This first universal creed of the church, this creed was produced at the first ecumenical council held at Nicea in 325. The creed is rich in history and theological content. It is the part of the liturgical tradition to this day and many if not most Christians recite it each Sunday. We will be examining the theological issues addressed in the creed, the Biblical support for the content of the creed, and the potential value of the creed for Christians today.
The series will begin on Sunday, July 12 and will be led by Dave Timmerman.
Pastor Dan’s Ordination
This month, Pastor Dan and Dana Teefey participated in step six of his final ordination ceremonies and meetings in Portland, Oregon. Having felt a call to vocational ministry and agreement with other Christian leaders, Dan began the pursuit of permanent credentials in the Evangelical Covenant Church. This process has a significant time line including class work in seminary, multiple written papers and interviews on Dan’s theology as it relates to the Covenant church. Dan’s experience in ministry work, as well as the years he has lead as Interim Pastor at Ravenswood Covenant Church and Senior Pastor at Riverside Covenant Church, have shaped his skills in the areas of preaching well, teaching well, and caring well.
Focus on the Family Garage Sale & Riverside Youth Yard Sale
Thank you for helping with another successful Focus on the Family garage sale. This year we did something a little different. We had the Focus on the Family garage sale on Saturday, June 13th, and then on Sunday, June 14th we turned the sale over to Riverside’s Youth Group. The result was amazing! Saturday we made over $5,000 to send to Focus on the Family to provide ultrasound machines for crisis pregnancy centers. Also we will be donating approximately $750 in vouchers to shop at Goodwill to patrons of Matrix Lifeline Pregnancy Center, LifeCare Services Pregnancy Center, the Salvation Army, It’s My Closet, and Love, INC. This is the result of a clothing drive with our unsold clothes.
