More than a year ago, the Riverside Leadership Team assembled a Development Committee to evaluate Riverside’s current facility usage and future needs.
Last summer Riverside voted to acquire the white house next to our property upon the recommendation of the Development Committee and the Leadership Team. The Riverside offices and Senior High and Junior High youth have now moved into the house freeing up badly needed children’s space in our main facility.
While the purchase of the house has been successful in meeting our immediate needs, the Development Committee has continued to meet and assess options to accommodate current and future growth. As has been discussed in congregational forums, the Development Committee has explored many possibilities, including: doing nothing, expanding our current facility, building a new building on our existing property, purchasing vacant land, purchasing an existing structure, and several other options. Many of these possibilities can be viewed by clicking HERE.
This past Monday, the Development Committee, Leadership Team, and Staff met with Rob Hall, Vice President of Real Estate Services for National Covenant Properties. National Covenant Properties is the lending institution of the Evangelical Covenant Church (our denomination). We met to discuss Riverside’s current facility usage and various options for the future. Rob complimented our process thus far and encouraged us to continue to prayerfully balance our ministry vision with practical needs.
The Development Team will continue to investigate various facility options for the future and will continue to keep you updated. It is important to remember that no final decision will be made without opportunities for congregational discussion and a congregational vote.
Also remember that our facility is not Riverside. We (people) are Riverside. Riverside’s primary facility concerns center on how our facility, whatever it is or may be, enhances the work that God is doing amongst and through us. We must prayerfully consider together any decision we may make in the future and discern collectively the path God is leading us towards.
