Riverside Covenant Church -- West Lafayette, IN
Life together.
The Development Committee will be hosting a forum this Sunday, December 13, following the worship service, to give an update on their work and discuss facility considerations. If you are unavailable to attend the Development Committee forum, but have questions or comments, please email the Development Committee at [email protected]
The manner in which the Church as a whole and local churches in particular have chosen to involve themselves in the political realm has varied over time and as a function of the traditions and theology of various denominations. In our own country the Establishment clause in the Constitution (“Congress shall make no law respecting an establishment of religion”) draws a line of separation between the Church and the State, and has also had a significant impact on how involved American Churches have been able to be. For most, the issue is not whether or not Christians should seek to serve and alleviate the suffering of others in this world, but rather the most appropriate means to do so, both in terms of the theology of the Gospel and the philosophy of ministry of the Church.
You don’t want to miss “A Backward Christmas Pageant” presented this Sunday, December 20 at 4:30 p.m. by the Riverside children. Following the pageant, we will go into the surrounding neighborhood to do some Christmas caroling and to pass out invitations for Riverside’s Christmas Eve services. After the caroling, we will return to Riverside for pizza and a birthday cake for Jesus. Please bring a salad to share for our meal.
Sign up now for Session Two (or more) of the four five-week sessions of this winter’s whopping 20-week "Essential 100 Challenge" Women’s Bible Study. Session Two (the second of the four five-week sessions) will start Wednesday, February 10 and run through March 3 from 6:30-8:00 p.m. at the church.
Designed to compliment the churchwide "Essential 100 Challenge" Bible reading plan for 2010, different speakers from Riverside will be featured each week. A $5 per session donation to help cover study costs is requested–that’s just $20 for all four sessions! Childcare will be provided, snacks will be enjoyed and fellowship opportunities will be included. A sign-up sheet is located on the table in the back of the sanctuary next to the sound booth.
